The Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI) has once again celebrated brilliance, hard work, and leadership among young scholars, as it held its 2025 Awards Ceremony on November 2 in Lagos. The event recognized exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves through academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
The ceremony, attended by scholars, mentors, and education stakeholders, highlighted the achievements of graduates and professionals who have contributed significantly to youth development through AEI’s various programs.
In his address, Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi, Project Coordinator of AEI, commended the awardees for their dedication and contributions to nation-building through education. He urged them to continue being ambassadors of excellence and positive change in their respective communities.
“The world awaits your brilliance. Let these awards serve not just as recognition but as a call to action — to lead with knowledge, integrity, and compassion,” he said.
Celebrating the Best of the Best
Among those honored were scholars who have excelled academically, demonstrated strong leadership, and made remarkable contributions to mentoring and community service.
Nofisat Omowumi Hamod, a first-class Accounting graduate of the University of Lagos, received special recognition for mentoring upcoming scholars through AEI’s community-based programs.
Kayode Olowoyobiojo, a graduate of Lagos State University, was celebrated for his transformative impact on youth development in Nigeria. Similarly, Dr. Yusuf Adebakin, a PhD student in the United States, was recognized for his research excellence and dedication to mentoring young minds.
Other notable honorees include Abiodun Oyero, National Youth Council Chairman, Alimosho Chapter, for his leadership in guiding young scholars; Babatunde Akinloye, who has led AEI projects since 2017; and Sirajudeen Hamzah, a Lateef Kayode Jakande Leadership Academy Fellow, for his outstanding contributions to AEI’s initiatives.
AEI also honored international scholars such as Aisha and Zainab Abdulkareem, UK-based professionals who continue to empower young Nigerians through AEI’s educational programs.
Recognizing Leadership, Research, and Community Impact, a total of 24 scholars were recognized under four award categories: Outstanding Leadership Award; Professional Award; Academic/Research Award; Community Development/Impact Award
Each category was designed to highlight excellence, dedication, and service, while strengthening the professional profiles of the awardees.
Ogungbayi noted that since inception, the Academic Excellence Initiative has remained steadfast in its mission to nurture the next generation of global leaders through mentorship, academic programs, and leadership training. AEI has trained and certified thousands of young scholars, offering them opportunities to develop essential skills for global competitiveness.
“The AEI is not just an organization — it’s a movement for excellence, we are building a community of scholars who will shape the future with knowledge and purpose,” Ogungbayi noted.
The 2025 AEI Awards Ceremony served as both a celebration and an inspiration for scholars across Nigeria and beyond. As AEI continues to expand its reach, the organization remains committed to promoting education as a tool for social transformation.
