… Group Advocates Synergy among Built Professionals to Stop Building Collapses

The Conference room of the Sheraton hotel, Ikeja Lagos was filled to the brim on Saturday night with members of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, their friends, associates in other built industry profession, family members and well-wishers as the Lagos chapter of the professional body inaugurated the QS Olanrewaju Farotimi led senate for the year 2022 – 2024.
In their well-suited attires, members of the NIQS welcome their guests with pleasantries. The joy and excitement on their faces at the investiture of QS Olanrewaju Farotimi as the 16th Chairman and inauguration of 2022-2024 senate members was second to none as they welcomed all with conviviality.
The investiture ceremony commenced with the recitation of the national anthem which was chorused by all present. This was followed by the introduction of dignitaries present on the occasion.
Given his welcome address, the outgone chairman of the chapter, QS Ayo Alao thanked the 2020/2022 senate for their support and cooperation throughout the tenure.
While welcoming everyone to the occasion Alao reeled out his success in office as he said, his tenure was able to unite all and bring innovations to the Lagos chapter of the association.
The new senate for 2022/2024 was inaugurated by the President of the Institute, QS Olayemi Shonubi (FNIQS).
The president in his address urged cooperation and unity among the new executives saying “it is only with cooperation and unity that more can be achieved.”
Haven been inaugurated, Farotimi, in his acceptance speech thanked all for their presence and support as he promised to sustain and go beyond the success of the last administration.
Speaking with The Bliss News, the chairman of the new Senate advocated collaboration and synergy between the built professionals to curb the incessant building g collapses in the country.
Mr Farotimi said it is only through well-quantified and structurally designed architectural works that can guarantee an end to building collapses.
“We are going to work toward the welfare of our members and also collaborate with other professionals in the built profession to synergise and work together because we want more people to know about the importance of quantity surveying which is the hallmark of our profession.”
Speaking on the incessant building Collapse, Farotimi said; “we have been advocating that professionals should be engaged in every building development, no matter how big or small. Incessant building Collapse is due to not using the key professionals in the built industry, many developers and house owners resolve to use quacks whenever they want to start their building construction, and this has most times accounted for the reason for building Collapse but if the professionals are involved this will be curbed to the nearest minimal.”
