It was a pandemonium experience in Lagos at the popular Ikeja under bridge yesterday as an explosion rocked, leaving five persons injured.
The cause of the explosion is not known yet as the police said investigations have commenced to unearth the immediate cause of the incident.
According to an eyewitness, Bola Ayinla, the fire stemmed from an exploded solar inverter around Ikeja under bridge at about 6.30pm.
“The explosion was as a result of an inverter that blew up, and Lagos Fire and Rescue are there and there is traffic around the area, with people running helter skelter,” he said.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, saying firefighters were on the ground to restore normalcy.
“The situation is under control there is no cause for alarm,” Adeseye assured residents.
Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, also confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
Hundeyin, who said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion urged residents to go about their business as the situation is under control.
“While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and other factors that might have caused the incident, the general public are enjoined to go about their lawful engagements and businesses peacefully without fear or apprehension, as the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured, Hundeyin said.
The police spokesman said the injured persons have been taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.
He said; “five (5) people inside and around the shop that sustained various degrees of injury have been rescued and swiftly recovered to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention”.
