The executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof-Oloyede has presented West African Examination Council, WAEC, second series private, popularly called GCE forms to 800 indigent students residents of the local government on Friday.
The free GCE forms distribution by the Oshodi-Isolo local government chairman came at the end of his free six weeks long intensive coaching class for the students in preparing them for the examinations.
Otunba Almaroof-Oloyede speaking at the ceremony said his administration’s love for education and youth development account for his huge investment in the education sector. As he said education development remains bedrock of his administration.
He said, “the significant number demonstrates the depth of our administration’s dedication to educational advancement. It reaffirms our pledge to break barriers that hinder academic aspirations, no matter the cost. By this gesture, we are saying that your dreams are valid and your community is behind you.”
Continuing, the chairman highlighted other educational interventions by his administration; “Our support is not limited to the distribution of free GCE and JAMB forms. We have provided a school bus for the easy movement of students, awarded scholarships to brilliant but indigent learners, and distributed school bags, exercise books, and other materials. We have introduced smart learning items to schools, given monthly subventions for smooth operations, and embarked on infrastructural projects. Notably, the reconstruction of St. Paul Primary School is about 90% completed, and once fully furnished, will be handed over for public use.”
The council boss charged the students to excel in the forthcoming examinations urging them to make him and he entire Oshodi-Isolo local government proud.
“To today’s beneficiaries, I urge you to make Oshodi-Isolo proud by performing excellently in the examinations. The purpose of the coaching was to prepare you thoroughly so that you can come out in flying colours. I hope you are ready. I am rooting for you, and your local government is rooting for you,” he said.
He expressing optimism about celebrating the students’ success when results are released.
“This is an opportunity you must not waste. The resources invested in purchasing these forms should not be in vain. To our teachers and organisers, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your diligence and commitment to shaping the future of our children.”
Giving an update on the exercise, Comrade Amidu Arije, speaking on behalf of the Coordinating Committee, praised the Chairman for the trust reposed in them to serve. He revealed that the intensive coaching classes commenced on August 4, with over 1,000 students admitted. Teachers were sourced from nearby schools and coaching centres, and students were trained not only in academics but also in morals and disciplinary skills necessary for navigating life. He noted with satisfaction that the exercise recorded no casualties.
Representing the students, the two best performers in the mock examination, Delight Ocha and Azeez Ayman Akinlade, expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman for the life-changing opportunity and pledged not to let him down.
