The Inner Wheel Club of Isolo, Opebi, Oregon, Ikeja South and Gbagada South in conjunction with the District 911 have intensified their campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), reaffirming their commitment to promoting dignity, safety, and justice for women, children, and vulnerable groups in society.
The campaign, which forms part of the district’s humanitarian and advocacy programmes, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of SGBV, educate the public on prevention strategies, and encourage victims to speak out and seek justice.
Members of the organisation gathered at the palace of Osolo of Isolo, HRM Oba Isa Abiodun Faronbi Shekoni to sensitise the public especially women and other stakeholders on the need to stop SGBV and empower them to speak up against any form of violence or abuse.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Stop violence against women and girls and say no to gender based violence’, Head of Field Operations at the Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs Oluwakemi Bello enjoined all persons going through any form of violence to speak out and get help.
Mrs Bello urged the women not to die of silence when faced with any challenge saying the state government along with Inner Wheel is in partnership to assist them get help at any time.
She said; “We are here today to empower you, to give you a voice to be free form any form of violence and abuse. Speak up now whenever you are going through any form of violence.”
Speaking during the campaign, the president of Inner Wheel Club of Isolo, Mrs Kike Babalola, emphasised that SGBV remains a serious social challenge that requires collective action from families, religious institutions, government agencies, and civil society organisations. She called for stronger enforcement of laws protecting victims and harsher penalties for perpetrators.
Also, the Inner Wheel District 911 Chairman, Mrs Omolola Olubukola Fakeye, also urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant, stressing the importance of early education on personal safety and respect. The organisation pledged continued support for survivors through advocacy, counselling referrals, and collaboration with relevant authorities.
She said campaign underscores Inner Wheel District 911’s dedication to service, compassion, and the protection of human rights, particularly for women and girls.
The Osolo of Isolo, HRM Oba Isa Abiodun Faronbi Shekoni thanked the inner Wheel for bringing the campaign to his doorstep, stating that the effort is a complimentary one as the kingdom too has been sensitising people against the SGBV.
He assured of continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to end SGBV in the society.
A past chairman of the Inner Wheel District 911, IWM Ronke Solomon in her message of credence to the women assure that the organisation will stand by them to end violence and abuse against women.
Mrs Solomon equally urged the women to speak up against SGBV not to die in silence.
