One dies as building collapses in LagosThere was another building Collapse in Lagos on Wednesday at 12 Aromire Street, Ikeja.

One person died in the partial building collapse, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has said.

According to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the building which formerly housed a supermarket store partially collapsed as a result of ongoing construction by some unskilled labours on site.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency swiftly responded to the emergency call immediately and said they helped in taking full control of the situation.

He said the collapsed building doesn’t affect any of the buildings around it.

The situation report read; “the Agency responded to distress calls and upon arrival, discovered that a storey building formerly occupied by KIMS MART, was being worked on by unskilled labourers resulting in a partial collapse.

An adult male reported to be a welder lost his life instantly at the scene. His remains were recovered and removed from the scene.

The post-disaster assessment conducted by the Agency’s LRT indicates that the building is stable and does not pose a threat to other buildings around.

The building has been cordoned off and LASBCA and Nigeria Police have been contacted for further action.
