… Warns residents against dumping refuse on drainages
Iwaya Community in Yaba local council development area of Lagos state will soon heap sighs of relief as the state Special Adviser on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu assures the community of government effort to tackle the clogged drainage headlong.
Rotimi-Akodu gave this assurance when he join the royal father of the community, the Olu of Iwaya, Oba Sulaiman Owolabi Ogunoloko during the world clean up day exercise in Lagos.
The special adviser who sympathised with the people on the unhealthy and unhygienic condition they lived in assured the government will spring into action immediately to ensure the drainages are properly cleaned and where necessary, more water waste channels will be constructed.
He said; “We will swing into action to clean up the environment, we will make sure our canals and drainages are free of clogging. As we plan doing this for our people, we will keep enlightening the them on cultivating proper waste disposals in the community, we wantthem to know that they need to own their environment and know that whatever government is doing for them, they must own it and maintain it properly.”
He however urged the residents to also cultivate cleaning habit by making sure they keep their environment clean always and warned against indiscriminate dumping of waste into the canals and other drainages around them.
Speaking during the clean up exercise, Ogunoloko appreciated the SA and appealed the government to quickly intervene in cleaning up the drainages in the community.
The monarch also emphasised the need for residents to maintain a healthy living by avoiding dumping refuses into the drainages and canals around them.
