Tragedy! Six feared dead as bus, train collide in Lagos

Tragedy struck in Lagos on Thursday as no fewer than six people were confirmed dead while about 80 others sustained varying injuries after a train collided with a BRT bus in PWD Shogunle area of the state.

The train rammed into the Lagos State staff BRT bus which was conveying the staff to their various offices at PWD bus stop, Shogunle Lagos on Thursday.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the fatalities as it gives an update on the incident via its website.

“After a report to the Lagos Territorial Office, the Emergency Response team mobilised to the scene of a bus/train collision.

The statement reads: “The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.

“Two adult females staff of the State Government died on the spot and several injured evacuated.

“Four additional injured persons have died on arrival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital of the 84 injured and evacuated to the hospital.”

Also the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the number of dead in a situation report.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said the injured ones are being attended to at the Lagos State University Hospital.
