… Vow to enforce 6 meters drainage setback
In an effort to ensure free flow of waste channels across Lagos State, the state Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab along with the Special Adviser on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu have met with property owners along the Agungi- Ajiran primary drainage channel with a view to reestablishing the setback of the channel which has been encroached upon.
Wahab and Rotimi-Akodu warned that all structures along the primary drainage channel in the Agungi-Ajiran area must observe a minimum of 6 meters setback on both sides.
The meeting resolved that the 6 meters set back must be observed as the only way to effective cleaning of the channel can be carried out.
While speaking, Wahab emphasized that it is absolutely unacceptable for some of the property owners who have converted the setback of the channel to access roads to their properties, urging them to find alternative routes.
He urged all those who have their fences and structures within the 6meters setback of the channel to voluntarily move them back and observe the setback, insisting that if Government has to do it, it may not be very pleasant.
He promised fairness to all the property owners, insisting that this informed the decision to convene the consultative meeting so that everyone could be heard before a final decision is taken.
