The Oduduwa Secondary School Old Students Association (ODUSSOSSA), led by its Global President Omolaja Oyerinde, has given reason; the old students, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Ikoyi, embarked on a health mission for their Alma Mata.
The medical outreach, which was held at the school premises on Ladipo Street, Mushin Lagos state, was well attended by students, community members, and even passersby benefited as they had a stopover to attend to their medical needs.
The outreach offered a wide range of essential health services including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, eye examinations, as well as breast and prostate cancer screenings.
According to Oyerinde, the services rendered attest to the association’s commitment to community welfare.
He said the initiative was carried out as a way of uplifting the community and giving back to the school.
He said; “This year, we decided to focus on health because we believe health is wealth. When illnesses are detected early, they can often be managed or prevented. Our goal is not to just support our members but also to uplift the community and give back to the school that shaped us.”
Oyerinde also highlighted ODUSSOSSA’s ongoing commitment to addressing more serious medical needs.
“For cases that go beyond the scope of today’s services, we’re prepared to partner with Rotary Clubs, NGOs, and other organizations to provide further assistance,” Oyerinde assured.
Kazim Adeoye, Chairman of the 2024 Legacy Convention and President of the 1997 Set spoke about the fulfillment he felt from the turnout.
“Organizing a program is one thing, but seeing people benefit from it is another,” Adeoye said.
“Offering these services for free, services that would otherwise be expensive is incredibly rewarding,” he added.
Adeoye also explained that the event was designed to motivate current students, emphasizing the importance of education, hard work, and community involvement.
“We want to show students that success is not just about personal achievement, but about giving back to the community,” he added.
A beneficiary Alhaji Akinyemi Aremu praised the initiative, noting his satisfaction with the services provided.
“I underwent four tests eye exam, prostate check, blood pressure, and sugar level tests. The doctor confirmed that everything is normal, and I’m in good health. I’m thankful for the support and pray that God continues to bless the organizers,” Aremu said.
