The challenges that often come after the death of men in many homes are usually enormous.
These challenges among others include fending for the family and the children up keep by their wives.
Not many widows that are left behind by their husbands are able to make ends meet, life, therefore becomes tough and meaningless to them as they are incapacitated.
In bringing succour to the plights of these widows, a community based organisation, Oshodi Noble Heritage (ONH) has consistently put smiles on their faces for seven years counting now through its widows empowerment programme.
The seventh edition held recently in Oshodi saw to empowerement of 35 widows with N20,000 cash grants to boost their existing business.
Founder of the organisation, Otunba Abdulhakeem Opadijo, a multiple award winning public speaker and teacher, said the organisation has continued to bring succour into the lives of the widows in Lagos.
He said the drive to bring relief into their lives is as a result of their great concern for widows plights after their husband demise.
Otunba Opadijo said the organisation has over the past seven years empowered no fewer than 195 widows with business grants.
The organisation, he said remains resolute in remedying the challenges of the widows and this will be a continuous exercise to bring succour to the widows.
He said; “We have been having series of communal beneficial programmes for our people for over 14 years now, but we decided to delve into helping the widows given the harsh condition they are often subjected to after the demise of their husbands. Our organisation started empowering widows with business grants to boost their businesses to make them earn a living. Each year in the last seven years, we have consistently put smiles in the faces of 195 widows with minimum of N20,000 business grants.
We have gave N30,000 to N35,000 business grants to the widows in the past, this empowerement is given out based on the money we are able to generate each year.”
Also speaking at the 7th edition of the widows empowerment programme of the organisation, its former coordinator, Barr Olawale Rasheed disclosed that the organisation among other programmes prioritise the widows empowerment programme in the last seven years to ensure majority of the widows eke a living through its grants.
He charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant saying the opportunity given them should not be taken for granted.
He said: “We encourage the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money given to them. In the last seven years, we have been monitoring how the widows make use of the money given to them, we are glad that they have been channeling the money in the right direction, this is what we expect this set of widows to do to help them in their businesses.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Esther appreciated the organisers for their well thought programme for the widows plight, prayed that God almighty continue to shower blessings on them.
