… Endorses Sanwo-Olu, APC candidates
A prominent socio-cultural organisation, Yoruba Welfare Group (YWG) has congratulated the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at the February 25 presidential election.
The group also congratulated Nigerians for conducting themselves peacefully before, during and after the elections describing the election as free and fair.
Public Relations Officer of the Yoruba group, Hon Adewale Adeogun stated this on Wednesday at a press briefing in Ikeja Lagos.
Hon Adeogun said the press conference is meant to congratulate Nigerians on the success of the election as well as to task and appeal to Lagosians especially the Yrouba race to come out enmasse on Saturday 11 March to cast their vote for Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and all candidates of the APC across the country.
He said; “first, we thank Almighty God for His mercies over our land, which has prevented Nigeria from relapsing into post election crisis.
Having thank God and having congratulated Tinubu himself in our earlier message, we must thank Nigerians who did not only vote in a peaceful election, but who comported themselves peacefully before, during and after the poll. While the Independent National Electoral Commission strove to make the presidential election free, fair and credible, the citizens largely made it peaceful. You truly deserve a big congratulations and accolades.
However, it is pertinent to note that as we rejoice at the success of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the poll, we must know that it is not yet uhuru, until all APC governors and state lawmakers are massively elected into offices across board. Particular mention must be made of Lagos, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna as well as Delta, Sokoto amongst others. Anything short of this may make it difficult for Asiwaju Tinubu to deliver on his promises. While voting APC lawmakers in the states’ Houses of Assembly will make governance easy for governors, having many APC governors in states will surely facilitate development. Consequently, we hereby endorse Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and other colleagues of his in other states. We all know how sensitive Lagos, the fifth largest economy in Africa is to Jagaban himself. It is too sensitive to be left in the hands of the opportunists and the rapacious tribal irredentists.”
The group also warn those fanning ember of post election crisis in the country to have a rethink and join the president elect in his drive for a better Nigeria.
He said; “Yoruba Welfare Council wishes to warn the three categories of trouble makers. First among them are politicians who lost election. We urge them to either take the path of former president Goodluck Jonathan by accepting faith and congratulate the winner and be honorable or take the path of president Muhammadu Buhari who took his case to Supreme Court on three occasions before God crowned his effort on the fourth attempt. They should never take the path of post election violence as experienced in Kenya and Cote de I’voire.
To those who are stocking the ember of religious intolerance and tribal hatred because they lost election, they must realise that there is life after election, and no matter how passionate they are about the election, instigating the youths against the system for selfish reasons can only lead to chaos and set the country backward.
The third category are the Yorubas who have decided to allow religious inclination or personal reservations they harbour for Tinubu to reject the election result despite massive evidence to the contrary. To the elderly among them, such as former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Pa Ayo Adebanjo amongst others, we advise them to remember their posterity, family name, their last days on earth and standing in the presence of their Creator. And to Yoruba youths like Debo Olugunagba we urge them to consider their future. When the history of betrayals of the nation and in Yorubaland will be told, their names will be written with mud”.
National President of the association, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje said the group detest the claim that Lagos is no man’s land saying such erroneous thoughts should be eschew as he said Lagos belongs to the Yoruba race.
He warns those working against the progress of Lagos to desist from their illusions. He reaffirms the Yoruba Welfare Group to support Sanwo-Olu and all candidates of the APC in the coming elections.
